SPC Anthony A. Kaiser was born on
December 13, 1979, in Honesdale, PA. He
graduated from Narrowsburg High School in
Narrowsburg, NY in June 1998 and attended a local
college, where he attained an Associate’s Degree in
General Studies. After college, SPC Kaiser
became a New York State Trooper.
SPC Kaiser entered the
United States Army on September 19, 2005 and
completed training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri.
SPC Kaiser’s only assignment was with the
504th Military Police Battalion, 571st Military
Police Company, Fort Lewis, WA.
On November 4, 2006,
SPC Kaiser deployed with the 571st MP Company to
Iraq in support of
Operation Iraqi Freedom.
On March 17,
2007, at 1414 hours, SPC Kaiser was on patrol with
his unit at a checkpoint at a marketplace in
Baghdad, Iraq, when they came under fire from
several different directions. He was the first
to spot and fire on several of the enemy insurgents
attacking his unit. He died of injuries
sustained from small arms fire in the attack.
His awards and
decorations include the National Defense Service
Ribbon, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War on
Terrorism Service Medal, and the Army Service
Ribbon. SPC Kaiser was posthumously awarded
the Bronze Star Medal with V device, Purple Heart
Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal,
and the Combat Action Badge.
SPC Kaiser had been a
member of the Narrowsburg Fire Department since
December 2, 1998. He served as President in
2002 and was otherwise an active interior
firefighter until going to further his training as a
NYS Trooper. He then returned to active status
briefly before enlisting in the Army. Anthony
will be sorely missed by all who knew him,
especially his fellow firefighters. He was
recently described as the "quiet professional" by
his Army supervisors and fellow soldiers, and that
description certainly applies to his time as a
Narrowsburg firefighter. He dedicated his life
to helping his friends, his community, and his
country. He is a true American hero.
SPC Kaiser is survived
by his wife, Heather, who currently resides in
Lakewood, WA, his father, Andrew, of Narrowsburg,
NY, and his brother, Steven, of Honolulu, HI.
