The Beach Lake Fire Department was dispatched to a working barn fire at the Bryant farm on Calkins Rd.  Arriving units found barn 100% involved in fire.  The farmer was attempting to remove his cattle, and was almost completely successful.  Only two cattle died, and one person broke a wrist while helping to load cattle.  8 fire companies and 3 ambulance companies were on scene.  A severe thunderstorm passed through the area during operations, and two firemen were struck by lightning.  Both were transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital by Damascus and Honesdale ambulances, and escaped with only minor injuries.  The barn was destroyed, but the exposures were saved, including the farmhouse. Over 200 responders were on scene for nearly 7 hours.  Over 500,000 gallons of water was used from 3 ponds and equipment, and a milk talker was also used as a water supplier.  A rehab center was set up because of the smoke and 90 degree heat.  Narrowsburg FD was initially on standby duty in Beach Lake, but was then called to the scene to relieve other firefighters.  Lava FD stood by in Beach Lake and Yulan stood by in Narrowsburg.
